Occasionally we will have someone call us very upset because we reported 25+ foot viz at a lake from our Facebook page. They claim viz was terrible. By the end of the conversation they realize they were diving in the wrong part of the lake! The point we are trying to make is PLEASE…consult with us for the most accurate details about dive sites if you are not familiar with them.

They call it Scuba Wednesdays and its from 6:30 to 8pm. All they provide is the water so make sure you swing by in plenty of time to get your equipment needs. Lake Tenkiller is the divers choice coming from the Oklahoma City area for best overall diving. Although the lake can be a bit moody at times it is well worth the visit. Surface temperature in the summer can get into the 80′s. The good diving is going to be below the Thermocline where summer temperatures are in the 70′s. Tons of aquatic life as well as history. In the 1950′s Lake Tenkiller was just a river. Once dammed and flooded it has became one of Oklahoma’s best Scuba Diving and outdoor enthusiast getaways! We frequently dive on the remains of old school houses, farms, roads and bridges. The Bottom contour is primarily Sandstone so it does not get stirred up easily. Shore diving is great as well as remote boat dives. Depth can exceed 150 ft. Air fills are available at Gene’s. Air fills at Big Daddys are no longer available!
Here are a few places to stay that give discounts to Bluewater Divers customers:
Tenkiller State park (cabins & camp sites) 918-489-5641
Suite 16 hotel (in town a few miles from lake) 918-489-2100 Fin & Feather resort (very close to the lake) 918-487-5148 Snake Creek Lodge (very close to the lake but a few minutes from the State Park area) 918-457-4715
Elmer Thomas Lake is just over an hour from Bluewater Divers. This is a spectacular dive for an evening getaway or a late afternoon. Its a very small lake that can get crowed early on the weekends. Surrounded by mountains, the 20 ft. average visibility and abundant aquatic life has made this a favorite for many divers coming from OKC. Make sure you bring some bread to feed the eager school of Perch that will be following you the entire dive! If you forget bread there is an ample supply of muscles buried in the silt you can crack open. The Perch will know what to do from there. Most of the diving is shallow and summer temperatures are in the 80′s. If you want to dive a bit deeper the dam is the place to be. There is a heck of a Thermocline if you go deep. Maximum depth in-between the new and old dam is less than 100 ft. NO AIR FILLS AVAILABLE! Make sure you bring plenty of air with you! Due to the limited number of dive sites at the dam area you may want to consider paying a nominal fee to dive the LETRA area. You will have to enter a Military check point Use common sense on what items you posses in your vehicle before attempting to enter the check point!
Lake Murray is about 1 1/2 hours from Bluewater Divers near Ardmore Oklahoma. Surface conditions in the summer get into the 80′s. Diving below the Thermocline can get into the 60′s in the summer. The bottom composition is very silty. On the weekends the more popular sites get very stirred up. Although access is a bit of a goat trail down to the water, diving at the old tower is the choice of most divers.
Broken Bow Oklahoma is just over 3 hours from Bluewater Divers. Although the lake gets very deep most of the good diving we have found is 40 foot and shallower where the temperature is in the 70′s for summer time. Surface temperature in the summer gets into the 80′s. Visibility is 10-25 ft. spring, summer and fall. It gets brutally cold below 50 ft. and visibility typically deteriorates. Air fills can SOMETIMES be arranged at the Broken Bow Fire Department, make sure you contact them for availability.
About a 3 1/2 hour from OKC you will find this great quarry that typically has 15-20+ viz! Friendly…sometimes too friendly fish are everywhere (catfish, bass & perch).
