Sharky Marky
Outside of family, I can’t think of anything I love more than scuba diving. Every aspect of it. Diving, teaching diving, learning diving, talking about diving…you get the picture. I often joke that if my bathtub was deep enough, I’d kit up and jump in. Except I’m not joking. My favorite dives involve wrecks and sharks, and educating divers and non-divers alike about sharks (whether they asked me to or not) is one of favorite pastimes. In fact, not shutting up about sharks for hours on end in the presence of a certain Roatan dive shop owner is what earned me the Sharky Marky moniker.
If you’ve been in Bluewater Divers, I’m sure we already know each other. I’m here open to close pretty much every day. I came here in 2016 after briefly teaching for another shop, and I couldn’t possibly be happier with my decision. The people, the vibe, and the philosophy of BWD are what make this the best dive shop anywhere, and I’m so glad it’s my home. I enjoy running the day-to-day operations of a dive shop, meeting new people, getting students excited about their lifestyle upgrade, rebuilding regulators, and finding out what piece of new gear is best matched with a customer.
In addition to being a PADI Master Instructor, I also teach technical diving for Technical Diving International (TDI). If you’re interested in going a little deeper, getting more detailed in your dive planning, and packing your brain full of decompression theory, come talk to me!
I lead 2-3 group trips for the shop each year, both internationally and within the US. Most enjoyed places so far are Roatan and Egypt’s Red Sea. And I’m really excited about Thailand in 2025. I like to be at the lake every weekend I possibly can, whether it’s at our home base of Beaver Lake or one of the special trips we make to Tenkiller or the Blue Hole. I enjoy teaching anything, but my favorite is probably the Divemaster course. I love bringing new dive professionals into the world. If everyone was a diver, the world would be a much better place.
Beyond diving, I’m probably just hanging out at the Shark Shack (home) with my wonderful wife and partner in crime, Sara. I was a semi-professional musician for many years, so I enjoy playing various musical instruments and occasionally writing/recording. I’ve also recently started enjoying cooking and am having fun coming up with new creations in the kitchen.
