Self-Reliant Diver
Step Up Your Diving Game Big Time!
Be Your Own Best Buddy!*
*Prerequisites apply
PADI Self-Reliant Diver: $250
While we don’t encourage “solo” diving, you need to know how to get YOURSELF out of a jam when, not if, the buddy system breaks down. Over three dives, you’ll learn how to calculate your SAC rate to manage gas, SMB deployment, mask replacement on-the-go, navigation, the value of critical equipment redundancy, and lots more. In the event of buddy separation or other emergencies, you’ll be able to take care of YOU. Wonder why it’s so important? Read our article here.
**The Self-Reliant Diver course requires PADI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and 100 logged dives as prerequisites**
There’s no manual for this course, but you’ll pick up some supplemental materials at sign-up to get you started. Then your instructor will give you all the rest of the knowledge and information you need to complete the dives successfully and understand why you’re doing what you’re doing.
This course is a lot of fun and contains a LOT of new knowledge and skills. You WILL come out of this weekend much more advanced than when you started!
Sharky Marky will be the instructor for this course. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact him directly!
Required equipment:
Self-Reliant Diver – You’ll need a full set of scuba gear. You can certainly rent ours if you don’t have your own yet. You will also need a backup mask, two signaling devices (audible and visual), a backup computer (or depth gauge and timing device), underwater slate and pencil, and at least two cutting tools. We’ll provide the pony cylinder and regulator.
NOTE: If you’ve completed the TDI Intro to Tech course and/or PADI Sidemount Diver prior to Self-Reliant Diver, you can use doubles or sidemount as your redundant gas supply, instead of an AL80 and pony bottle.
Additional required equipment: you should definitely own your own SMB, spool, and compass by now.
